Privacy Policy

This policy applies to the spaceback app for iPhone, iPad and Android, made by David Rodrigues. It is effective as of 2026-10-12.

The short version

spaceback compresses the videos in your photo library on your device. Your photos and videos are never uploaded, and the app has no account, no advertising and no tracking. It sends diagnostics only if you turn them on.

Your photo library

spaceback asks for access to your photo library so it can find large videos, compress them, and — only when you confirm it for a given video — save the smaller version and remove the original. All of this happens on your device. iOS and Android show their own confirmation before an original is deleted.

On iPhone and iPad, if a video is stored in iCloud Photos, iOS downloads it to your device so it can be compressed. That transfer is between your device and Apple and is covered by Apple's privacy policy. On Android, the app only works on videos stored on the device.

While a compressed video waits for your review, a working copy is kept inside the app's private storage on your device. It is deleted when you replace or keep the original, and when you delete the app.

Notifications (Android)

On Android, compression can continue while the app is closed. The app then shows a notification with its progress, and another one when videos are ready to review. These notifications are created on your device; nothing is sent to a server, and you can turn them off in the system settings.

Purchases

The lifetime unlock is sold through Apple's In-App Purchase on iPhone and iPad, and through Google Play Billing on Android. Payment is handled by Apple or Google; spaceback never sees your name, your account or your payment details.

To check and restore your purchase, the app uses RevenueCat. RevenueCat receives an anonymous identifier generated by the app, the purchase receipt, and technical information sent with any network request (device model, operating system and app version, country, IP address). This information is not used to identify you, to track you, or for advertising.

Diagnostics (optional)

Off unless you turn on “Share diagnostics” in the app's settings. While it is on, the app sends crash reports and, when a compression fails, a technical report of that failure to Firebase Crashlytics, a service of Google that processes them on our behalf.

A report holds what the video is (container, codec, dimensions, frame rate, duration, size, bitrates, colour and sound format), how it was encoded, what the encode produced, the check that failed and the system's error code. With it come the model of your device, the versions of the system and of the app, and an identifier Firebase creates for this installation of the app. A report never holds the video, an image of it, its name, where or when it was shot, or the device that shot it.

Reports are kept for 90 days. Turning the switch off stops them at once and deletes those not yet sent. Without the switch, nothing of this service runs.

Information we collect

None beyond the purchase information described above and, if you turned them on, the diagnostics described above. The app's statistics (space reclaimed, videos processed) are stored only on your device.

Children

spaceback is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be published on this page with a new effective date.
